Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week 2026

The Congenital Heart Disease Foundation of Nigeria (CHDFNigeria) is proud to announce the Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Awareness Week 2026, taking place from February 7th to 14th, and we are inviting you to join us.

A Week for Every Heart

Congenital Heart Disease is the most common birth defect worldwide and a growing paediatric public health challenge in Nigeria. Yet, awareness, early diagnosis, access to care, and long-term support remain limited for many families. Congenital Heart Disease (CHD Awareness Week is our annual call to action; to educate, advocate, and mobilise support for heart warriors. Throughout the week, we amplify the voices of heart warriors, families, caregivers, and medical professionals while advocating for early diagnosis, accessible care, and stronger support systems for those living with CHD.

Why CHD Awareness Matters

Globally, 1 in 100 live births are affected by CHD. In Nigeria, thousands of children are born with CHD every year. Many remain undiagnosed or receive late care due to limited awareness and resources. This week exists to change that narrative by educating communities, engaging policymakers, and reminding families that they are not alone.

How You Can Get Involved

Everyone has a role to play. You can participate by engaging in our week-long activities – such as attending our virtual events, participating in the Wear Red Day, sharing educational content, volunteering your time, or supporting our advocacy and fundraising initiatives. Whether you are a patient, parent, health worker, carer, or ally, your involvement makes a difference.

Rock Your Scar Campaign

Your Scar Tells a Story. Wear It with Pride.

For many CHD warriors, scars are not symbols of weakness; they are marks of survival, resilience, and courage. The Rock Your Scar Campaign celebrates every journey, every battle fought, and every heart that keeps beating against the odds. It is a celebration of heart warriors’ resilience.

This campaign creates a safe, empowering space for CHD warriors and survivors to share their stories, reclaim their narratives, and inspire others living with congenital heart disease.

Join us. Share your scar. Share your strength.
